synthetic.pics is not a prompt box. It is a generative art practice built on a strict division of labor: 50% human direction. 50% machine exploration.
I design the system. The machine explores it. I decide what survives.
The work starts long before an image is generated. I construct the framework that determines what the machine is allowed to find.
The register the work speaks in — restrained, geometric, material-first. Nothing decorative survives the brief.
A closed vocabulary of shapes the machine may combine, but never invent outside of.

I define the visual territory. I set the rules, constraints, and parameters. I am not specifying pixels; I am building the world where the image can happen.
02
Once the system is live, the machine takes over. It generates variations at a scale impossible by hand. It combines shapes, materials, and depths in ways I did not explicitly pre-program. The machine introduces uncertainty. That gap between intention and outcome is where discovery lives.
03
Generation is not publication. A machine produces possibilities; it cannot judge them. I inspect the output, reject the noise, and isolate the work that holds tension and clarity. Most of it fails. Only a fraction remains.

An image doesn't go straight to the homepage. It gets a title, a description, a taxonomic category, and a permanent place in the archive. The software, the gallery, and the editorial structure are part of the artwork itself.

Neither side does the whole job.
Too much control, and the machine is just executing instructions. Too little control, and the result is noise. synthetic.pics lives in the middle: a human-built system, explored by a machine, shaped by human judgment.
The archive
Explore the collectionSurfaces with weight and history. The machine renders matter, not effects.
Restricted palette families. Muted earths and mineral tones; saturation is earned, never default.
How the frame is held. Space is a material — silence around the object is part of the object.
The machine works exclusively inside those boundaries. The boundaries are mine.
